Bike Week Expected to Increase Tourism

Thailand’s number one island destination is set to roar with excitement as all motorbikes lead to the 16th Phuket Bike Week.

The highly-anticipated tournament is set on April 9 to 13 along the famous Patong Beach. This event also serves as one of the highlights preceding the Thai New Year, or Songkran, which draws the highest number of tourists to Phuket every year.

A good turnout is expected for Phuket Bike Week 2010, as more than 3,000 bikers from all over the world have registered. Tourism revenue is also expected to increase during this event, with an anticipated turnover of around 700 million baht. “We are expecting this year’s Phuket Bike Week to be a success with the participation of both local and foreign riders,” reveals Wittaya Sinkara, the tournament’s event coordinator. Official Phuket Bike Week merchandise, such as shirts, caps, along with other souvenirs will be sold during the tournament.

Big bike enthusiasts are gearing up for an exciting array of activities during the five-day event, which includes a tattoo competition, a rock contest, as well as the search for Miss Phuket Bike Week. This year’s Bike Week also hosts a “Ride for Peace”, which is a fund-raising for the benefit of needy children in Phuket.

The Phuket Bike Week 2010 is organized with the participation of the Phuket Province, the Phuket Riders Club, and with the cooperation of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
